If Altrincham like many local towns has needed a little TLC well, it is in the best possible place to get it. The people in and around the town really do care about their community and are fighting to save it from the kind of fate befalling certain areas of the country.
There have been multimillion pound investments for the Stamford Quarter, new car parking, a re-developed market place and improved access to facilities.
And news hot off the press is that Barclays Bank is set to move into this re-vamped area later this year.
Delighted by the announcement announcement, David Wightman, centre manager of the Stamford Quarter said: ‘Barclays will indeed be a welcome addition to the Stamford Quarter. Clearly businesses have a real confidence in the centre and the decision taken by Barclays will provide a tremendous boost. This news comes just after the announcement by Wilkinson’s to open for December together with the decision by Ladbrokes to take a further five year lease on their current unit within the Stamford Quarter.’
This is great for Altrincham which is the perfect place to live, shop and work, as the locals will be so keen to point out.
People living close by can stroll down the road to a smart local eaterie for a cocktail and dinner, they can find fresh local produce at the market and mingle with friends at independent local cafes that really do make you feel welcome with freshly brewed coffee, home-made cakes, and the morning papers.
When a pretty boutique or a fashionable art gallery opens the locals are out in force, giving it wholehearted support because this is their town and they are proud of what they have on their doorstep. If you want life to be greener, this is the solution. Local shops for local people, where you can walk in and they remember your last purchase.
Altrincham isn’t just a place for shopping but let’s face it, we all need clothes to wear and things to eat. It has its own football club, its theatre and green spaces like Stamford Park where you can wander on a frosty morning before a hearty breakfast perhaps?
And what a great destination it is to explore, even if you don’t live there. The great thing is, it is a mere 20 minutes away from Manchester city centre by tram and that means those who don’t have the good fortune to live there, can still enjoy its enthusiasm and passions.
