Children from Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital enjoy Christmas magic at Mclaren Manchester

Patients being treated at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital got to experience what it is like to be an F1 driver at a special festive afternoon of fun and surprises at McLaren Manchester.

The McLaren Manchester showroom, at Canute Place in Knutsford, hosted a very special afternoon for a group of children from the hospital where they were given the unique opportunity to play on the state-of-the-art F1 simulator, the same simulator used by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

After having a taste of driving an F1 car, the children received an early Christmas present, courtesy of the showroom, from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity mascot Humphrey who got into the festive spirit and dressed as Santa.

The experience was a dream come true for the children who experienced the exact sensations and G forces as Hamilton and Button as they race around the circuit.

Mark McLoughlin from McLaren Manchester said: "Children and adults alike are thrilled to be given the opportunity to sit in the same seat as Hamilton and Button and try their hand on the F1 circuit so it was a very natural decision to invite the children from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital along and distribute some early Christmas presents.”

Jenny Clarke from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity commented: “What McLaren Manchester did is absolutely fantastic and such a special treat. The children were so excited and it really helped to put a smile on their faces. I’m sure it is something they will be talking about for a long time and who knows we may have inspired a future Jenson Button!”
