It sure is hearty in Hale,Cheshire
In ancient times the original meaning of the name Hale was ‘nook’ and in spite of having, along with Hale Barns, some of the most expensive property outside the south east, this aptly describes the rather quiet village ambience of the area. Yet, because of the relative affluence here, there are more sophisticated trappings, like designer clothing and artisan foods that make Hale a worthy destination for any visitor. Hale Barns used to be part of the original village but grew so large it is now a place in its own right.
Food for thought
Chinese, Italian and modern European restaurants make this area a fascinating place to eat, drink and people-watch. Hale has always had vogue-ish leanings, so while you may wear casual jeans and a sweater, they should be designer, darling! Find a mixture of country gents and village dwellers at various places like in the village where everything is served up from a simple steak to an uber glam cocktail.
Boutique heaven
Area-wise Hale may be small but it packs a lot into its square mileage, as far as womenswear is concerned you are spoilt for choice. A variety of boutiques offer clothing from intriguing European labels to familiar brands and many places offer superb personal service. Lingerie, menswear and children’s clothes are available too. Indeed, this is how shopping for clothing should be everywhere!
Game On
This is a village-y area so expect
the usual pursuits. There are fewer things more unifying for a community than locals supporting their sports teams. Hale Barns has its cricket team, so on a warm summer afternoon, do take a look. Or enjoy a round of golf at Ringway Golf club, close to the airport. If you’re feeling even more energetic a spot of bowling could also be on the agenda.

Grand designs
One of Hale’s most intriguing buildings is Royd House on Hale Road. Designed in 1914 by the architect Edgar Wood, the front is curved like a semi-circle with an enormous and intricately panelled front door and flat roof.
